About the event
A book launch fo the book “Fragrance of Thari Folk Songs” written by well known writer, linguist, and social scientist, Noor Ahmed Janjhi. Hailing from the largest village Vakrio of Thar, Noor Ahmed Janjhi has authored/translated/edited 32 books on different topics in Sindhi and English language. He has also done remarkable work on Classical Sindhi poetry, Kabir and Rumi. Join our book launch and be a part of an engaging discussion on the literary history of Thar and folklore traditions of the area, as we focus on the study of Thari Folk Songs reflecting different dynamics of the society. It will touch the multidimensional purview of folk songs through linguistic, historical, psychological, geographical and socioeconomic aspects.
He is a senior advocate and intellectual speaking and writing on the different aspects of the society of Sindh on different forums and he writes occasional pieces for Dawn.
She is a Media Professional, Researcher and Intellectual, working on cultural and environmental issues
He is an educationist and research scholar currently working as the Chairman Secondary Board Karachi. He has a vast experience of visiting Thar and Umerkot and interested in cultural aspects of society
She is a Researcher, Historian and Educationist, currently engaged with the teaching history. She has travelled throughout Thar and other regions of the country and has a good interest in culture of arid zones and remote areas
Mir Mansoor Mangrio
A young writer with post-graduation in English Literature from NUML (Islamabad). Besides being a good short story writer, he has written critical appreciations and book reviews .He is greatly interested in culture and folklore.
